Post - COBE predictions for Inflationary Gravity Wave and Density Perturbation spectra

چکیده
We assess the relative contribution to the COBE-measured microwave anisotropy arising both from relic gravity waves as well as primordial density perturbations originating during inflation. We show that the gravity wave contribution to the CMBR anisotropy depends sensitively upon n – the primordial spectral index (|δ k | 2 ∝ k n), increasing as n deviates from a Harrison-Zeldovich spectrum (n = 1). As a result, for n < 0.84 the contribution from gravity waves towards δT /T is greater than the corresponding contribution from density perturbations, whereas for n > 0.84 the reverse is true. (n = 0.84 corresponds to an expansion index p = 13.5 in models with power-law inflation a ∝ t p .) Our results show that for a scale-invariant Harrison-Zeldovich spectrum generated by chaotic inflation, gravity waves contribute approximately 24% to the CMBR anisotropy measured by COBE. Applying our results to the cold dark matter scenario for galaxy formation, we find that in general CDM models with tilted power spectra (n < 1), require the biasing parameter to be greater than unity, on scales of 16h −1 50 M pc. We also obtain an expression for the COBE-normalised amplitude and spectrum of the stochastic gravity wave background and compare it with the sensitivity of planned laser-interferometer gravity wave detectors.

Imprints of the Metrically-coupled Dilaton on Density Perturbations in Inflationary Cosmology
Spectra of density perturbations produced during chaotic inflation are calculated, taking both adiabatic and isocurvature modes into account in a class of scalar-tensor theories of gravity in which the dilaton is metrically coupled. Comparing the predicted spectrum of the cosmic microwave background radiation anisotropies with the one observed by the COBE-DMR we calculate constraints on the par...

متن کاملFour-year COBE normalization of inflationary cosmologies.
We supply fitting formulae enabling the normalization of slow-roll inflation models to the four-year COBE data. We fully include the effect of the gravitational wave modes, including the predicted relation of the amplitude of these modes to that of the density perturbations. We provide the normalization of the matter power spectrum, which can be directly used for large-scale structure studies. ...
متن کاملBlue perturbation spectra from inflation.
We investigate inflationary models leading to density perturbations with a spectral index n > 1 (“blue spectra”). These perturbation spectra may be useful to simultaneously account for both the amount of ultra large-scale power required to fit cosmic microwave background anisotropies, such as those measured by COBE, and that required to give bulk motions and structures on the ∼ 50 h Mpc scale.
